It is time once again to celebrate the independence of this great country with friends and loved ones, and hopefully reflect on the unique privileges afforded us as Americans.
One need only look at news from many other countries around the world at this time to appreciate our good fortune. Our overall economy and the housing industry is slowly mending, and our government, despite the partisanship and inaction, remains an example to those in countries who may only dream of freedom.
Our society may be imperfect, though it represents a national community based on shared interests and common good which transcends differences in religion, race, and nation of origin. Tolerance prevails over narrow-mindedness, with the respect for personal liberties and choice protected from the compulsion of conformity to the opinions of others.
No doubt our founding fathers would be surprised by some aspects of America today, though I believe they would be pleased and proud that their most treasured vision of a perfect union was fostered by the generations which followed. Let’s do our part to keep it that way . . .
May you and yours enjoy a wonderful and safe July 4th weekend.
